Watchable
Wildlife Site, Beebe Springs Natural Area
Client: Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife
Chelan, Washington
Site: Beebe Springs
Natural Area lies between the Columbia River and Highway 97
near the Chelan Fish Hatchery in northcentral Washington State.
The property, a former orchard in the Columbia Basin, was purchased
to restore the site for salmon habitat and public access as
a Watchable Wildlife site.
Solution: Working closely with the public and
stakeholders, a design was developed incorporating trails and
viewing platforms with educational and interpretive facilities
that will enhance the visitor’s experience and educate
the viewer about the flora and fauna on the site, as well as
the cultural and historical resources of the area.
The natural environment at Beebe Springs Natural Area will be
preserved, restored, and enhanced to create habitat for fish
and wildlife, and viewing opportunities for visitors.
Role: As Interpretive Planner, Cascade Interpretive
Consulting developed the interpretive program, goals and storylines;
made recommendations for interpretive features and participated
as a project planning team member.
